This would be one sad neuro blog if I didn’t mention researchers from the University of California, Berkeley, “using fMRI and computational models, were able to decipher and reconstruct movies from our minds” by associating brain activity of subjects with the video being viewed, piecing it together and replaying it.

Watch that video. Amazing. And blurry. Here’s what it means:

While watching the first set of trailers, the fMRI measured blood flow through the visual cortex and this information was directed to a computer, which portrayed the brain as tiny three-dimensional cubes called “voxels,” or volumetric pixels. For each voxel, there was a model that detailed how motion and shapes in the movie are translated into brain activity. The computer program learned to relate visual patterns in the trailers with corresponding brain activity.  Via
“…the technology can only reconstruct movie clips people have already viewed. However, the breakthrough paves the way for reproducing the movies inside our heads that no one else sees, such as dreams and memories, according to researchers.” Via

A highly technical and creative experiment showing an interpretation of what our brain “sees” so that one day we may be able to see what is going on in the minds of non verbal patients, e.g. coma, stroke or severe autism.

I have heard about this! But I’d never seen the video before, this is so amazing

A Story Without Words

“What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal.” -Albert Pine.

First time trying it out… next time I’ll use tape as a guide rule or something. I like how it turned out :3

(edited to slap a sloppy coat of black on the other nails… less jarring this way imo)

This is my best friend Kylee & I. & These are our matching anchor tattoos. We both have a total of 3 separate anchors on our bodies. Why? Because we met in the 3rd grade & have been best friends ever since. We feel as if we are each other’s anchor. We’re what keeps each other from drifting off to sea.
We had a blast getting these done. & I’d like to thank my good friend Alan Chen for tatting us up! :) We’re proud to have joined, what he calls, his “skankchor army”!

man, i love these anchors - and want something similar someday - but ‘skanchor’? damn, dude, wtf

This is my second tattoo. It’s a sea turtle designed from a hibiscus flower. I got it to represent where I grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida. Not only are hibiscus flowers all over west palm, but they also represent a “nice summer.” I cant picture any better place for this than my foot because of growing up walking around barefoot on the beach.

This is my white tree of gondor done in white ink. The concept is from Lord of the Rings because I’m absolutely obsessed with the movies and books, and it’s something that my father and I have in common. He plans on getting a matching tattoo to mine in a few weeks when his birthday gets closer. How cool is that?!
Anyways, I love my tattoo and I love white ink and I couldn’t imagine a better fit for me.
Done @ Ink Factor in Prattville, AL.

oh my god this is amazing, i want something like this
